2 Installing Git
You might already have git installed on your computer. To check, open your terminal and type the command “git --version”. If you have git installed, it will respond with the git version you have. If you get an error message (“git: command not found” is a common one) you will need to install git.
If you are on a Mac, you may be automatically prompted to install command line tools when you ran “git –version”. You should accept these, clicking “OK” or “Install” when prompted.
Full instructions for installing git can be found here. We’ve condensed these instructions here for simplicity, but you may wish to look at all of the potential options if you run into any problems.
For Mac users: if the automatic install did not work, you can try the command “xcode-select --install” in your terminal.
For Windows users: you can download git for Windows.
